The Choices of Dental Floss

Posted .

If you have been told by your dentist to floss, then it is time to floss! Everyone should be flossing each day to keep their oral health in tip-top shape! However, if you are new to shopping for floss, how do you know which one to choose? To help you on your journey, our team here at Stan Scalf DMD in Georgetown, Kentucky, is happy to assist you by telling you the different kinds of dental floss so you know which one is best for your particular smile.

To start, there are two types of floss: waxed and unwaxed floss.

Waxed floss:
Waxed floss has a thick, waxy, slick coating on it that is fantastic to use for people who have tight teeth or tight wedges in their teeth. The wax coating helps your wax slide easier between your teeth to help remove the plaque and other food debris between them and deep along the gum line. This is a great option for people who have limited space between teeth or find it hard to put floss between their teeth.

Unwaxed floss:
Unwaxed floss is made from a strong fiber material that works excellent between the teeth and in the gum line. This is an excellent choice for people who have straighter teeth where the floss can go easily between your teeth and along your gum line.

One good thing about dental floss is no matter which floss you pick, having any floss to help remove the smelly bacteria and food particles from your teeth and gums can help your smile stay healthy and strong. Remember, any dental floss is better than no floss at all.
